how to make brushes in photoshop

Have you ever saw brushes available on someone else's site before, and you wondered how you can make your own? Well, read this tutorial on how to find out!

Step 1: Obviously, you need Photoshop open, so open it. Now make a new page by going to File-->New, and make the width/height to whatever you want.

Step 2: In my opinion, Photoshop brushes are hard to make digitally. So, to make brush making easier, you could make Photoshop brushes out of paint then scan them. Choose what your going to do now, and the procedures are basically the same

Step 3: On the blank page you will need to use the color black by using text, brush tool, etc. So the brush quality will be in it's best. Below is my result, which I used text to create.

Step 4: Once you're finished with making your brush, go to Edit-->Define Brush Preset .

Step 5: A pop up window will appear asking you to name your brush. Name it then press ok.

Step 6: The last step is, if you want to keep your brushes so their there next time, you need to do the following. Go to Edit-->Preset Manager , and then click on the brush you want to keep(hold down CTRL and click for multiple brushes.) Once you have what you want clicked on, so to Save Set , and you will save the brush(es) in your brushes folder, but going to: Photoshop-->Presets-->Brushes , and save. Your brush will be found where all the other brushes are.
